Ernest Maier uses byproducts from the production of expanded clay and expanded shale in the manufacturing of its concrete masonry units.

This produces CMU that have lower density's add therefore are easier to install, yet they meet the same strength specifications as heavier block. The lower density also provides better fire resistance, thermal characteristics and sound transmission ratings. Ernest Maier's medium and lightweight units have post industrial recycled content in excess of 25%.

Ernest Maier uses Certified ASTM C-331 Lightweight Aggregate and never use coal ash byproducts.
